Can you say Hardware? That was the theme for this years Northern Front Range Goose season (Oct. 1 thru 9). Stillwater Hunters harvested sixteen banded honkers and four were sporting neck collars. The ongoing Front Range banding project headed up by Jim Gammonly, Colorado DOW Waterfowl Biologist, is providing great opportunities for goose hunters hoping to bag a few of the much coveted souvenirs and at the same time, by reporting the bands to the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service, were helping Jim make sound decisions on the future of our Front Range goose hunting. Urban Canada goose numbers have skyrocketed along the Front Range over the past ten years. Jim and his staff have banded over 6000 of the approximate 30,000 residents with the idea of studying patterns, habits, and hunter accessibility. The hunting was excellent throughout the nine-day season and all indicators point toward another banner season for Honkers. Wintering numbers are estimated to be near 300,000 geese. There are still some prime dates available especially in November and December for those of you hoping to add a little hardware to your lanyard.
The duck hunting during the first split of 05 was as good as I can remember. Teal were everywhere followed by good numbers of Gadwall, Widgeon, and Mallards. For years the second split (Nov. 5 thru Dec. 4) has been our most productive period for ducks. With the addition of two new ponds, two more miles of Platte River, and over a mile of warm water slough were looking better that ever for providing high quality duck hunting opportunities. There are still a hand full of days available for the second split, give us a call and well get you dialed in!
Were ready to go on the 6-D Ranch. The 6-D Ranch is located between Sterling and Julesburg in the North East corner Colorado. Its an easy two-hour drive from Denver or DIA straight out I-76. The 6-D Ranch has two miles of South Platte River, several miles of warm water sloughs and creeks, and dozens of corn & wheat fields. Jumbo Reservoir, located just a mile to the North of the ranch, is known for roosting and wintering thousands of ducks and geese (light and dark). If you like the idea of getting away from it all, this hunt is for you. Were offering two and three-day package (additional days available upon request) hunts that include meals, motel & bird cleaning. Youll hunt ducks and geese each day over water and in the fields. Count on hunting morning and afternoon unless you fill your limits in the morning. If you would like to try your hand at some coyote hunting or prairie dog shooting while your there let us know bring a rifle and well make it happen. Cost per day is $350 and includes: fully guided and outfitted goose and duck hunt, meals, motel, and bird cleaning.
